We are promoting "modal shift", which means switching the transport of mainline cargo from trucks to trains and vessels, which are energy-efficient and low-emissions. Recently, Hitachi Transport System, Ltd has been recognized for its aggressive promotion of modal shift when the Japan Federation of Freight Industries selected it as one of the companies to receive the Fifth Annual Modal Shift Excellence Award this year again.
This award was established to promote self-action by distribution companies and to lift their consciousness for promoting modal shift.
We have received the award because the ratio of the weight of cargo that we transported by trains or vessels to the total weight in mainline transport increased 0.4% year on year. By establishing an efficient transport system with the use of trains and vessels, we are striving to decrease distribution costs and reduce CO2 emissions.
